The OrthoGrande XXL Orthopedic Chair – Comfort for Larger Individuals

The OrthoGrande XXL Orthopedic chair is designed for individuals with larger proportions. It boasts a sumptuously upholstered seat and backrest, delivering luxurious comfort. Whether in a 24/7 work setting or during leisure activities, this heavy-duty orthopedic chair ensures outstanding ergonomic support. What is an orthopedic chair?

Key features include a height-adjustable backrest, a free-float mechanism, multi-adjustable armrests, and seat-depth adjustment, making it a standout choice.

The OrthoGrande, available with or without a headrest, is equipped with an impressive 180kg weight rating and is backed by a 10-year standard usage or 5-year 24/7 warranty.

1. Backrest adjustment

The OrthoGrande provides extensive customisation with its adjustable backrest, allowing you to fine-tune the angle to your precise preferences and lock it securely into place.

Moreover, the height of the backrest is adjustable, offering you the flexibility to position the overall support precisely where it is most beneficial for your comfort and ergonomic needs.

2. Seat adjustment

a. Seat angle adjustment

The OrthoGrande XXL features an adjustable seat angle that can be set with a forward slope of up to 5 degrees. This specific adjustment has the effect of lowering your knees in relation to your hips, essentially “opening” the pelvis. This intentional pelvis opening promotes a more natural curvature of the spine, effectively alleviating pressure on the lumbar discs during prolonged sitting. By making this adjustment, the chair significantly diminishes the risk of lower back pain, enhancing overall comfort and spinal wellbeing. What actually happens when you sit?

b. Seat depth adjustment

The seat slider incorporated in the OrthoGrande enables you to finely adjust the seat depth, allowing you to move the seat pan backward or forward to align it with the length of your thighs. Achieving a comfortable seated position involves maintaining a 2-3 finger gap between the front edge of the seat and the back of your knees when your back is against the chair’s backrest. This practice not only prevents strain behind the knees but also ensures optimal upper leg and under thigh support, promoting healthy blood circulation.

  • For taller individuals with longer legs, the seat slider allows for INCREASING the seat depth, maintaining a correct ergonomic seated posture. Conversely, shorter individuals may opt to REDUCE the seat depth. Excessive seat depth may cause those with shorter legs to perch on the front edge of the seat, leading to inadequate back support.
  • In cases where there is a coccyx-related issue, a chair equipped with seat depth adjustment proves invaluable. This customisation capability enables you to tailor the seat depth to alleviate pressure on the coccyx, contributing to enhanced comfort and overall wellbeing.

The armrests on the OrthoGrande XXL are multi-adjustable. This allows you to position the supporting pads for optimum comfort while you work.

In addition to vertical height adjustment, the arm pads can be adjusted horizontally and also pivoted inwards/outwards.

The OrthoGrande has a Free-Float mechanism that promotes Dynamic Sitting.

orthogrande orthopedic chair

Dynamic sitting occurs in an office chair that is fitted with a mechanism that allows the angle between the backrest and seat to change. By continuously changing this angle, you automatically stimulate, or activate various muscles in your lower back, core and legs. As a result, the blood flow through these muscles increases, bringing oxygen and other nutrients to the muscles and carrying away the waste products of muscle metabolism. By doing so, muscle fatigue and it’s associated pain is reduced, particularly in the lower back, core and legs.

An Orthopedic Chair is recommended for anyone who has chronic lower back pain. An orthopedic chair must have a forward-tilting seat function that reduces the rotation of the pelvis when sitting down. This decreases the disc pressure in the lumbar region of the back while you are seated. Compared to an ergonomic chair, an orthopedic chair has additional features to ensure the chair can be adjusted to specifically address chronic lower back pain. What is an orthopedic chair?
