Available in configurations with or without a headrest, the OrthoMax boasts a robust 150kg weight rating, ensuring durability and stability. 1. Backrest adjustment

We work in different positions and everyone has a preferred seated posture. The backrest on the OrthoMax can be adjusted in three distinctive ways to specifically suit your spine and prevent or reduce back pain.

c. Lumbar adjustment

a. Backrest angle

The free-float mechanism allows you to independently adjust the angle of the backrest to suit your specific working position. The backrest can be locked in various positions, or alternatively left in an unlocked or “free-floating” position where it will follow the movement of your back.

b. Backrest height adjustment

The height of the backrest can be adjusted to allow you to position the lumbar support ‘exactly where you need it’.

c. Lumbar support adjustment

Finally, the inflatable lumbar support allows you to ‘fine-tune’ the position and firmness of the lumbar cushion for maximum comfort and lower back support.

2. Seat adjustment

a. Seat angle adjustment

The seat angle on the OrthoMax is adjustable and can be set at a forward slope of up to 5 degrees. This adjustment lowers your knees in relation to your hips, effectively “opening” the pelvis. The opening of the pelvis promotes a more natural curvature of the spine, alleviating pressure on the lumbar discs during sitting. This adjustment significantly reduces the risk of experiencing lower back pain. What actually happens when you sit?

b. Seat depth adjustment

The seat slider on the OrthoMax empowers you to fine-tune the seat depth, enabling you to move the seat pan backward or forward to align with the length of your thighs. When you are seated comfortably with your back against the backrest of the chair, there should be a 2-3 finger gap between the front edge of the seat and the back of your knees. This practice not only prevents strain behind the knees but also provides optimal upper leg and under thigh support, promoting good blood circulation.

  • For taller individuals with longer legs, a seat slider allows you to INCREASE the seat depth, thereby maintaining a correct ergonomic seated posture. Conversely, a shorter person should consider REDUCING the seat depth. If the seat is excessively long (deep), anyone with shorter legs might find themselves sitting on the front edge of the seat, leading to a lack of adequate back support.
  • If you have a coccyx-related issue, a chair featuring seat depth adjustment can be invaluable. This customisation capability allows you to tailor the seat depth to alleviate pressure on the coccyx, contributing to enhanced comfort and wellbeing.

3. Armrest adjustment

The armrests on the OrthoMax are multi-adjustable. This allows you to position the supporting pads for optimum comfort while you work.

In addition to vertical height adjustment, the arm pads can be adjusted horizontally and also pivoted inwards/outwards.

The OrthoMax has a Free-Float mechanism that promotes Dynamic Sitting.

orthomax orthopedic office chair

Dynamic sitting occurs in an office chair that is fitted with a mechanism that allows the angle between the backrest and seat to change. By continuously changing this angle, you automatically stimulate, or activate various muscles in your lower back, core and legs. As a result, the blood flow through these muscles increases, bringing oxygen and other nutrients to the muscles and carrying away the waste products of muscle metabolism. By doing so, muscle fatigue and it’s associated pain is reduced, particularly in the lower back, core and legs.

An Orthopedic Chair is recommended for anyone who has chronic lower back pain. An orthopedic chair must have a forward-tilting seat function that reduces the rotation of the pelvis when sitting down. This decreases the disc pressure in the lumbar region of the back while you are seated. Compared to an ergonomic chair, an orthopedic chair has additional features to ensure the chair can be adjusted to specifically address chronic lower back pain. What is an orthopedic chair?
